Justice – "D.A.N.C.E."

Justice, composed of the duo Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé, are a major player in the in the newly energized and emerging French electro scene. Their debut release, simply titled (read: Cross), hearkens back to fellow French electro show runners Daft Punk. The infectiously catchy hooks and beats are lined by dirty organs and massively distorted bass, the same kind of throaty bass that is becoming the stalwart of the French electro style.

The synth melodies found on tracks like “Valentine” and “D.A.N.C.E.”, akin to Daft Punk’s “Aerodynamic”, are reminiscent of playing original NES games like Guantlet (which yes, purists out there will argue Gauntlet was not an “original” NES game, being released unlicensed and without the “Official Nintendo Seal of Quality”, much like Pacman and Tetris, published by the now defunct Tengen, but I digress). Still, its a shade above chiptune in it’s pure analog-like quality.

The video for “D.A.N.C.E.” isn’t like anything you’ve seen before, winning numerous accolades for its originality and style. The cleverly mixed throwback vintage tee’s will be boutique favorites for years to come. These two are already pretty huge in the scene, but have mass appeal with each gem they release.
