We live in a big sad world with a capital B. If you aren’t already exhausted by the daily Russian scandals, Obama-era Executive Order roll-back signings, or just generally drained of exuding empathy at every minute of every day.. then just wait 5 fucking minutes. You’ll get there.. ugggh.
Anyone remember last summer? (It was hella long ago). But pre-daily-armageddon that most of us feel like we are living in… most of us should remember this song, no? Remember this song that somehow got released like 18 months before it’s titular movie was released? I ‘member.
A simpler time. A time of primary debates. A time of GO CUBS GO! A time of trips to the lake. A time of terror attacks–fuck–wait no, RIO OLYMPICS! (okay srsly we still have a looong fucking way to go). Point is, even considering a shallow time frame, we can reminisce. Pain passes. Hurt heals. Worries wane. Are we better than we were 10 months ago? Administrationally, no. But aren’t we donating more to the ACLU? To Planned Parenthood? Aren’t we becoming more active locally? More vocal with our questionably racist aunt and/or uncle on Facebook? PROGRESS!!
Pain passes. Hurt heals. Worries wane.
I think we can all be happy. Whether it’s from someone who deserves the kind of admiration only usually reserved for the woman who birthed you into this world, or maybe a friend who exhibits kindness by brightly texting you ‘sup’ on a random Saturday to ensure you’re doing well. Happiness can come from beating that third boss, or coming home with a wicked cute new fabric. Enjoying a night out with your favorite music playing and a few of your favorite beverages… or even a night in with a glass of wine, a shrimp salad, and an episode of Detroiters. *ahem*
Bob those shoulders. Shimmy those hips. Twinkle those toes. Enjoy your life. Just imagine and get that feelin’ to be happy.
🙂
